Emily - SIA Security Officer

What did you do before?

I was training in the automotive sector.

What's the best part about your job?

The variety and the development opportunities if you want them. I started as a steward, then progressed and obtained my SIA qualification and now I'm a security supervisor.

What surprised you most about your role?

That I've stayed for 12 years! I think it’s because there is so much variety. You have the option to work at any of the G4S Events. I’ve worked at Cheltenham Races, Leicester Tigers, and British Summer Time at Hyde Park. Each event is different and it's nice to have the option to try different ones and meet new people…..and enjoy the fixture in the background.

What would you say to someone considering a role in security?

I’m really glad I joined. It has really allowed me to develop new skills and progress my career. Knowing what career path you want to take can be hard but if you enjoy meeting people and care about their safety……. give it a go!

Pamela's Story

Pamela - Steward

What did you do before?

I worked in the insurance industry and in customer service.

What's the best part about your job?

The people!

What surprised you most about your role?

You wonder whether it might be dangerous but I've never felt at risk. I come from customer service and my current role is surprisingly similar. I get to meet people face to face rather than speak to them over the phone. 99.9% of the time people are wonderful - after all, they’re at the cricket to enjoy themselves! Occasionally someone may have had too much to drink but if you treat everyone with courtesy and compassion it’s always worked for me.

What would you say to someone considering a role in security?

Do it! It’s one of the best things I ever did! I tell all my friends to join. The club is fantastic. There is such a great atmosphere, they really look after you. I have met and chatted with all sorts of famous cricketers, commentators, and sports fans. And the security team around me is incredible.
